Ravi Chary is a sitarist on the road to discovery. Hailing from Goa, a haven for all things musical, Ravi was destined to be a musician. His father the Late Pt. Prabhakar Chari, a noted tabla player and musicologist introduced him to the possibilities of a life rich in Indian music. He chose the sitar from a plethora of possibilities made available to him by his father. Ravi is the first sitarist to have emerged from the Goan landscape.

His father was undoubtedly his first guru, but his foray into learning the nuances of the sitar began with Ustad Abdul Karim Khan in Goa, following which he came to Mumbai to learn from Ustad Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan. He continues his journey in sitardom under the tutelage of Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan. The percussion wizard, Trilok Gurtu initiated him into fusion music and Ravi toured with him extensively in his early days.

Ravi has tried to stay true to the sitar even while he explores its various facets in contemporary forms. He has hugely enjoyed all of the opportunities which resulted in magical collaborations with foreign artistes like Salif Keita, Kai Eckhardt, Angélique Kidjo, Ben Watkins, Pacco Sairre, Kudsi Eulgner, Robert Miles and performances at various international festivals - WOMAD, Glastonbury, Bumbershoot, to name a few.

His musical journey till date has been very enriching. Having had the privilege of performing with some of the best Indian musicians - Ustad Allarakha Khan, Gaan Saraswati Kishori Amonkar, Vidwan Vikku Vinayakram, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Sri Umayalpuram Sivaraman, Pt. Suresh Talwalkar, Ustad Sultan Khan, Louiz Banks, Ranjit Barot, Fazal Qureshi, Taufiq Qureshi, Sivamani, Ravi feels truly blessed and humbled.

A sought after performing artiste, both as a soloist and in collaboration with artistes from diverse musical backgrounds, Ravi has performed extensively in India & abroad.

For his musical pursuits, Ravi has received a fellowship from the ministry of HRD, Government of India.
